This exhibition runs from the 4th of July to 26th July 2015 at FOST Gallery over at Gillman Barracks.
It's part 3 of 4 of the FourSight series.
In this exhibition, Luke presents a series of paintings in more sombre hues and is meant to be 'slow' art, which is to be enjoyed in a waiting room setting. There are only three colours in play in this exhibition; white, blue and green. He has moved on from his works that he showed at Ipreciation last year. Though outwardly it still appears to be the same monochromatic visual field art, the working and the thought process is definitely different. The layers are not too important now, but straight lines and other workings of the paint are.
Really good works. And the 2 pieces that stood out and which we thought were the best were Blue on
Blue no.2 and Blue on White no.2. The blue on blue had a rich royal blue and the intensity and variegation of the blue gave an unsettling/humming effect which was stabilised by the two knees in the painting. Blue on white no.2 was very clean and quiet with only the two vertical lines of differing height to lend dynamism to the clinical quietness of the execution of the surface.
Also on display are multiple paraffin wax pieces. Something I think he might have picked up/ worked with during his residency in France. Interesting pieces but I felt more could have been done with the medium. Let's see how he develops with that.
Blue on Blue no.2
Left - Blue on white No.3, Right- Green on white no.2
Paraffin wax - Monologue 2.1
Points for collectors: Strong Buy. The two biggest paintings have been sold, along with a few smaller ones and a few of the wax ones too.
