Have been busy so sorry for this late post.
Basically the show is curated by Michael Lee and he invited some of his buddies to have a show.
There was Adeline Kueh who showed an installation " The distance between by bed and yours". Nothing really fresh, something edgey that a artist who doesn't need to sell anything to survive would produce. Basically a bathrobe made of sheets which she used, slippers, neon lights and video production. The layout of it in the gallery also didn't lend to any impact.
Ho Rui An showed really interesting works. There was two blurred photos , ala bokeh with words from stories referencing Singapore. Nice pieces. He did a light Box of LKY's tears. really good too. Looking up close you don't realise it until you move back or use a camera to take and photo of it.
Homa Shojaie, honestly can't really remember what she presented...(lousy reporting, I confess) But looking at the Facebook pictures, she presented some paintings/ drawings? You can tell the impact it had on me, LOL.
Jennis Lee Cheng Tien. Yes the installation artist based in Germany. She did some really good stuff. The keys, the OHP slides hung up and the floor tiles with the various stones. Really good stuff.
Michael Lee presented 3 photographs in 4R or 3R size ( do we still use this nomenclature?) frame up separately. It was of old pictures of abandoned buildings I think. Not his best work, but as the curator you can't be the star...conflict of interest I guess. But he definitely has better works. I really like his Vertical Serpentine book cut, think he showed that at Art Stage 2011 and again at Ipreciation's Portable Art Week.
Perception3 is a duo who showed photos and a video. Ok I guess. Didn't really stand out to me either. But guess have to continue watching them to be fair
Robert Zhao showed from his animal series, this one about stray cats. He presented a photo of a stray cat, interesting, but he has done better photographs. We also showed a couple of Resin Cat sculpture which I believe where ready made. But he trimmed one ear, ala neutered stray cat and add gold leaf to it. But the charming part was that he managed to dumbfound most observers who were trying to figure which part of the work had the diasec. The two cats were based on two plinths and the diasec/photo was on the plinth. Print was that of marble / stone so it looked like part of the plinth. Very clever.
Michael Lee's photos
Jennis Li's floortiles
Ho Rui An's LKY tears
Robert Zhao's Cats
Adeline Kueh's installation (part of)
Points for collectors: Mostly Interesting and good works. Hope you managed to catch the exhibition. Buy rating for Ho Rui An, Jennis Li, Michael Lee and Robert Zhao. Adeline Kueh not sure even though she was in the Prudential Eye awards. Homa Shojaie and Perception3 can give it a miss this round. The cat sculptures were sold. Jennis and Ho Rui An are relatively young with very decent price points.
