Woo hoo!

Public Service Announcement!

Tomorrow Luke Heng and Ruben Pang open at Gillman Barracks. Please do catch the show. Will be good stuff.

And for those who find our language too simple... You can always use this Instant Art Critique Phrase Generator.

"I find this work menacing/playful because of the way the optical suggestions of the purity of line endangers the devious simplicity of the distinctive formal juxtapositions."

Yah, I really should stop using "interesting" and "nice", not. LOL.

Forest Weft City Wrap - Nandita Mukand

This exhibition is held from 22nd November 2017 to 22nd December 2017 over at One East Asia Artspace.

Nandita was featured previously in a February 2017 post. We liked her works then and these are even better.

She did more sculptural works to hang on the wall, a table top sculptural work which was placed on a mirror surface (to good effect) and a few flatter works.

The works are really excellent! Definitely an improvement from the works which she showed at OneEast Asia earlier in the year and captures / expresses her artist statement really well.

Points for Collectors: Strong buy rating. Reasonably priced too! Definitely one to watch and follow. You should really catch her show before it closes on 22th Dec 2017. Must see show. But remember the OneEast Asia opening hours, 12pm -7pm, Mon to Friday and 12pm to 4pm on Saturday. Artist talk on 7th December 2017 too.

Monday, 13 November 2017

Whew, that's a lot of posts.

Hi all!

Just managed to complete these multiple posts and reviews. Lots of things happening.

Exciting things ahead this month (mainly because Luke and Ruben are amongst our favourite artists at 75GOP).

1. Ruben Pang having a show a Gillman Barracks.
2. Luke Heng at Pearl Lam
3. Affordable Art Fair - errrr....hope it's exciting.

We will live forever - Angie Seah

This exhibition is currently on from 9th November to 3rd December 2017 at Chan+Hori Contemporary at Gillman barracks.

anGie seah has been around for a while, initially starting off with sculptures and 2d paintings and sculptures, then moving on to performance and community art.

She was in the Singapore and Venice Biennale 2013 so she is a recognised name. But however she hasn't really been in the Gallery system, so it was good to see her in a mainstream gallery. Because eventually for an artist to be really successful, he/she has to be known to the art collectors/galleries and auction houses and not only the institutions. Mainly because the institutions' tastes depend on the curatorial team which changes or is forced to change their focus ever so often, whereas the art collectors collect for themselves.

Anyway Angie presented videos, drawings, sculptures, prints, photos and paintings.

One can see that she is more proficient in sculptures and performance. She did her DFA majoring in sculpture. Pizza Queen and I loved her ceramics pieces. And there were three pieces of ceramics which came with a print of instructions on how to use the ceramics, a la a performance piece. We felt that it encapsulated the essence of her better attributes of performance and ceramics.

A Cup of Solace

Point for collectors: Angie Seah buy to Strong buy rating. Really love her 'Breathe into heart of Sea" piece which I think had been snapped up on opening night.

Fiction of Precision - Various

This exhibition is held from 1st November to 30th November 2017 by the Art Galleries Association of Singapore over at Millenia Walk.

It is a pop-up exhibition at one of the unused 2nd floor units at Millenia Walk. Many of the member galleries have joined in to show a few of their works. A nice good collection of works.

Nhawfal Juma'at

Points for collectors:  Really love the Suzann Victor pieces done for STPI. Strong Buy rating. Khairullah Rahim always a buy rating. Nhawfal Juma'at did 2 interesting photos, we like his works/ideas. Buy rating for him. Kayleigh Goh both pieces sold. Very reasonably priced. Buy rating.

Black & White - Boo Sze Yang, Ben Loong and Benny Teo

This exhibition was held from 27th October 2017 to 08th November 2017 at AC43/ Art Commune gallery at Bras Basah.

The exhibition featured Boo Sze Yang, Ben Loong, Benny Teo, Tang Da Wu, Wong Keen and Zhuang Sheng Tao.

But we shall only talk about the younger artists here.

Boo Sze Yang did more works along the style of what he did at Ipreciation, the monochromatic, architectural and landscape type of works. Nice and interesting.

Ben Loong did more of the plaster and resin works with a touch of gold leaf. He definitely is improving as compared to the early works at VADA show at Geylang. His control of the plaster is much better.

Benny Teo did more of his abstract paintings but with out colour and in different hues of black. Interesting works but need to do something more contemporary or fresh to prevent being compared to those who have come before.

Points for collectors: Boo Sze Yang - Buy rating. Ben Loong - Buy rating. We would get their works. Benny Teo - Neutral. Have to wait and see what else he does.

Colors of Comple-X-city - Danya Yu

This exhibition was held from 26th October to 30th October 2017 over at the Visual Arts Centre at Dhoby Ghaut.

Danya presented some old but mainly new paintings. She also showed some of her trial pieces phase 1 and phase 2.

She definitely does nice work. She's definitely improving and doing nice works. Phase II had a more contemporary treatment done to it whereas phase I has gone more towards an 'older / modern art' feel.

Phase 2 on the left

Points for collectors: Buy / Strong buy. She's very motivated and passionate about her works. And in this exhibition, she did quite well in terms of sales. But we at 75GOP prefer works with a more contemporary feel , so if she does more of Phase II or gives her works a more contemporary feel we will definitely buy too.
