Departure 3 - Various artists

This exhibition was held from 23rd March to 7th April 2018 over at Ipreciation.

It was the 3rd in the series of Milenko hand picking some of his old students to show with him.

This show featured Jodi Tan, Faris Nakamura, Tan Wee Lit, Leow Wei Li and Zero (Zul Othman).

Jodi Tan showed more of her abstract works of groups. She did slightly larger works for this show. Really good works. Love her works.

Tan Wee Lit showed a sculpture. Not sure about it.

Leow Wei Li should some abstract paintings to do with sound. Something she did in her residency, which I think was in Japan. Interesting concept. Not very fresh. And visually not interesting. But it's a departure from her structured works.

Faris Nakamura showed more of his sculptural works. Similar to those at AAF and Vada. Interesting but still more of the same.

Zero showed a conceptually interesting work, where he cut out a layer of street art work from *Scape. It was thick and made of many layers of paint representing the many works which had been painted over one another repeatedly. He showed one piece in its original form and hung from a frame. The rest was incorporated into a sculpture made with concrete and the cut out paint. Interesting and conceptually interesting work but the end result wasn't visually that pleasing.

Points for collectors: Jodi Tan - Strong buy. Zero has been recognised with the young talent award and his works have taken a more intellectual approach and not so angsty. Partly due to his completion of his MFA and the award. He needs to do more research and documentation to the work and make it more visually pleasing. So a neutral rating for him for now. But definitely can watch. Leow Wei Li - this series is a hold. The same for Faris. Need to see how the two develop. Tan Wee Lit - not sure. Not enough to assess him.
