Eye - Gerald Tay; Catalyst - Jay Ho

This double billed solo exhibition was held from 2nd to 20th March 2019 at Chan + Hori Contemporary over at Gillman Barracks.

Gerald Tay presented Impasto works which dealt with masks and facades, and how everyone wears one be it a literal or figurative one. Gerald is slightly older but has also just graduated.

Nice to see young artists painting. He's quite good and did nice works. Still has to improve but a good start.

Jay is much younger and I think graduated from NAFA, that's why I think his works remind me a lot of Raymond Yap's work. Interesting works. Think his works have to do with the process of how the pigment / paint reacts with oil and other materials and he works with it to get the desired effects.

Points for Collectors: Buy rating for Gerald Tay. Almost sold out. Jay Ho sold out. But for Jay we give a neutral rating. Have to see how he proceeds with this process. If he pushes on, then definitely a buy rating, until then. As usual Chan + Hori is reasonably priced and Khai Hori is leading the artists in the right way. But I feel they are missing their spin doctor.
